What Do You Do For Fun?

Sharps Chapel has a lot of part-time residents – especially in the lake front communities. These are people that have fallen-in love with the area and have wanted to make it a part of their lives.  Many of them become full-time residents.  Many don’t – for various reasons. One reason that I have heard, from mostly the women, is that they are afraid they will not find enough things to do.  They think they will be bored.  It is a valid question.

I must admit, I have trouble relating because I see a million and one things to do, learn, experience, see, hear, taste, and feel.  And frankly, one of my hobbies is this blog which I use to share experiences so that others can experience them too.

But, if you are one of those people that are on the edge, here are some tips I’ve observed from others who have transitioned to full-time successfully:

  • Join a club or organization.  How about quilting, euchre, hiking, fishing, theater, gardening, reading, FCE, church, and more.  I personally know people in Sharps Chapel in each of these types of groups.
  • Start your own club.  Lisa C. recently started the Muddy Fingers Garden Club at Sunset Bay.  She just emailed a handful of women, they had their first meeting and they were off and running.  She took the initiative to fill a need and create an instant group to chat with or call to organize an outing.
  • Get out of the house and explore.  Take a different road to the grocery store.  Pick a spot on the map and drive to a new destination.  Hike at a new park.  Visit a museum.  Get on the mailing list of a garden center and attend some of their seminars/workshops.
  • Try a new hobby.  If you like Pinterest, explore their crafty pictures and then try to recreate something you love.  Take up knitting. Get a pet or take your existing pet for obedience training.  Try a new recipe and make it for dinner.  Go to the gym.  Dabble with some for of the arts (drawing, painting, dancing, singing).  Take up photography.

If you or a friend of yours needs a jump start to break up the monotony, then pick up the phone and invite them to join you in trying something new.  You’ll both be glad you did.  And if you don’t mind, I’d like to know what some of the things are that you’ve done to enrich your life in Sharps Chapel!  Please leave a comment.
